On July 08, 2016, President John Mahama inaugurated a 12-unit classroom block for the Wa Prisons Basic School Complex.

President Mahama expressed the hope that the inmates would make good use of the school to enable them to acquire skills which would earn them good income upon their release.
He gave an assurance that similar projects would be undertaken in other parts of the country.
The Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Mr Emmanuel Yao Adzator, expressed gratitude for the visit and thanked the government for the execution of the project.
