In March 2016, President John Mahama secured funding from the Austrian Government for the construction of 60-bed Ketu North District Hospital at Weta in the Volta Region.
The District Hospital was one of six hospitals for which € 89.9 million was approved by Parliament in March, 2016.
€14.5 million out of the € 89.9 million was allocated to the sixty-bed ultramodern hospital for Ketu North.
Government signed contract with the construction firm, VAMED, in September 2016 for work to begin.
The other five hospitals are the 80-bed district hospital at Somanya in the Eastern Region, the 80-bed district hospital at Buipe, the 60-bed hospital at Sawla, the 30-bed polyclinic at Bamboi, and the 60-bed hospital at Tolon in the Northern Region.
President John Mahama cut sod for all these hospitals before leaving office in January 2017.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned the Ketu North hospital on 20th October 2020.
